Setting up a secure client file portal with Sync

A client file portal allows you to send, request, and receive files and documents with ease, right from any web browser. Clients, customers, and external stakeholders can upload, download, and view files in their own password-protected portal, and those files can sync directly to your desktop.

Sharing and collaborating with a client file portal is a better choice over email attachments because:

  • It’s easy to access and share large files and folders full of files
  • Clients get their own secure login
  • Clients do not have to create a Sync account or install software
  • Files and folders in the portal can the synchronized to your desktop, keeping things more organized and productive
  • You get instant email notifications when files are accessed
  • The Sync Pro Solo Professional and Sync Teams Unlimited plan include custom branding. You can optionally customize the file portal with your own company logo and brand colors for a more professional, trusted experience

Creating a client file portal with Sync:

  1. Sign in to the web panel.
  2. Click the   (+ icon) at the bottom right corner of the screen
  3. Select New folder to create a new folder.
    • Use the default folder type
    • Enter a folder name (create a separate folder for each client with the name: Client Name portal)
  4. Create a link to the folder by clicking the   (ellipsis) icon beside the folder and selecting the Share as link option.
  5. From the Link settings window toggle Allow file uploads on and click Save.
  6. From the Link settings window toggle Password on, enter a password and click Save (your client will use this password to access the file portal).
  7. Click Advanced Settings.
  8. Under Notifications ensure New downloads is checked and click Save.

Giving your clients access to their own file portal:

  1. Follow the steps above to create a separate folder for each client.
  2. While you are still signed in to the web panel, click Files from the left navigation bar.
  3. Click the   (ellipsis) icon beside the the client folder you created previously.
  4. Select the Manage link option.
  5. Click the Share via email button. Don't forget to share the password when sharing.

Adding your logo and branding to the portal

This feature is available on Solo Professional and Pro Teams Unlimited plans.

  1. Sign in to the web panel.
  2. Click Settings from the left navigation bar. 
  3. Click the Branding tab. 
  4. Click the Browse button and choose a logo file from your computer or device.
  5. Click the Save button to save your changes.
