Why am I being asked for a verification code when joining a shared folder?

When accepting a shared folder invite, in some cases, you may be prompted to enter a verification code instead. This can happen for a couple of reasons.

1. You created your Sync account before using the invite link

If you created a new Sync account after the shared folder invitation email was sent, your account was not automatically linked to the invitation.

When you sign in to the web panel, an “invitation pending” banner will appear in the Shares tab, prompting you to enter the verification code from the original email to confirm access.

Fix:
Open the original shared folder invitation email, locate the verification code, and enter it when prompted.

2. The invite link was corrupted or modified

If you received the invitation email but the link was broken (for example, due to email formatting, forwarding, or link wrapping), the automated join process may not complete correctly. As a result, you’ll be asked to enter a verification code to confirm the invitation.

Fix:
Reopen the original invite email and accept the invitation again, making sure the entire link opens in your browser. If that doesn’t work, copy and paste the verification code manually from the email into the prompt on the Sync web panel.
