If you’ve moved or deleted a file or folder, but later notice it reappearing in its previous location, or appearing in both the old and new locations, this typically means the move or delete action did not complete successfully.
This can happen for several reasons, often related to syncing or shared folder activity.
Why this happens:
The move didn’t finish syncing:
If the Sync desktop app wasn’t running properly, or if your computer lost connection during the move, the action may not have synced fully. This can cause files to reappear in their original folder.Conflicting updates from others:
In shared folders, other members may be editing, renaming, or adding files at the same time you’re moving them. These simultaneous updates can cause Sync to restore or duplicate the content.Outdated desktop app versions:
Older versions of the Sync desktop app may contain bugs that affect how file moves and deletions are handled. This is more common when not all shared folder members are on the latest version.Web panel move interrupted:
If you moved files or folders using the web panel, switching tabs or closing the browser before the move completed can interrupt the process, leaving files in both locations.
How to fix it:
Update the Sync desktop app
Make sure you and anyone sharing the affected folders are running the latest version of the desktop app. This helps avoid sync conflicts.-
Retry the move or delete
- Move the files or folders again.
- Wait for the desktop app to finish syncing before making additional changes.
Avoid simultaneous edits
Ask team members to pause updates or uploads while you move large folders to prevent conflicting changes.Keep the web panel open
If performing the move through the web panel, keep the page open until the process completes. Avoid switching tabs or closing the browser window.Contact Sync support
If you continue to see duplicates or reverted files after following the steps above, contact our support team. They can review your account events and help restore the folder structure.
