Error: “Connection error uploading”

If you see the error “Connection error uploading” while uploading files in the web panel, it means the upload was interrupted before it could finish. This can happen if the browser closes, the computer goes to sleep, the file is being used by another program, or the file is being uploaded from a location with access or permission issues.

How to fix this:

1. Keep the browser open until the upload finishes

If you are uploading files in the web panel, make sure:

  • the browser stays open.
  • your computer does not go to sleep, hibernate, or shut down.
  • you stay connected to the internet until the upload is complete.

If the browser closes or the computer goes to sleep during the upload, the upload may fail.

2. Try the upload again

A temporary interruption can sometimes cause this error.

Try uploading the file again and see if it completes successfully.

3. Try a different browser or a private/incognito window

Sometimes, browser settings, extensions, or cached data can interfere with uploads.

Try one of the following:

  • upload using a different web browser.
  • open a private/incognito window and try the upload again.

4. Make sure the file is not open in another program

If the file is currently being used by another app or process, Sync may not be able to read it properly during the upload.

Before uploading, make sure:

  • the file is closed.
  • no other program is currently editing or using it.

For example, close the file if it is open in Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop, or another application.

5. Check where the file is stored

Uploads can fail if the file is being uploaded from a location that has limited access or permission restrictions.

This can happen when uploading from:

  • a network drive.
  • a NAS device.
  • an external location with restricted permissions.

Try moving the file to a local hard drive on your computer first, then upload it again.

6. Make sure you have read and write permissions

If your computer does not have the correct permissions for the file or folder, the upload may not complete.

Confirm that:

  • you can open the file normally.
  • you have permission to access the folder where the file is stored.
  • the drive allows read and write access.

7. Try using the Sync desktop app

If the upload continues to fail in the browser, try using the Sync desktop app instead.

The desktop app can be a better option for uploading files, especially if:

  • you are uploading many files.
  • you are uploading large files.
  • the browser upload keeps failing.
