Error: “The operation can't be completed because some items had to be skipped”

If you see the error “The operation can't be completed because some items had to be skipped” on your Mac while installing or updating the Sync desktop app, it means older Sync app files or background Sync processes are preventing the installation from completing.

How to fix this:

  1. Open Activity Monitor
    • Open Activity Monitor on your Mac.
    • You can find it in Finder > Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
    • You can also press Command + Space and search for Activity Monitor.
  2. Quit any Sync processes
    • In Activity Monitor, look for any Sync-related processes such as:
      • Sync.com
      • Sync-worker
    • If you find any, select them and quit them.
    • To do this, click the process name, then click the X button near the top of the window.
    • Choose Quit, or Force Quit if needed.
  3. Delete the old Sync app
    • Manually delete the old Sync app from this location: /Applications/Sync.app
    • This only removes the application.
    • It will not delete your Sync folder or the files stored in it.
  4. Run the new installer again
    • Open the new Sync installer file.
    • Run the installer again and complete the installation steps.
  5. Restart your computer and try again, if needed
    • If the installation still does not complete, restart your Mac.
    • After restarting, run the installer again.
    • This can help clear any Sync processes that did not fully close.
