How to use the Events Log

The events audit log is a feature that provides a detailed record of all activity within your Sync account. With built-in filters and categorized event types, you can quickly find the details you need to stay organized, troubleshoot issues, or maintain account security. 

In this article, we'll go over the following: 


How to access the events log:

View an audit log of all file changes and account activity associated with your Sync account.

  1. Sign in to the web panel.
  2. Navigate to Settings from the slide-out navigation on the left-hand side of your screen.

Events log overview

When you navigate to the Events page, you'll see a detailed timeline of activity associated with your account. Each entry in the log includes three main components:

  • Event details – A clear description of the action that occurred, such as a file being uploaded, deleted, moved, shared, or restored. This field also identifies the user who performed the action (if applicable) and the item affected.

  • Event ID – A unique identifier assigned to each event for reference or support purposes. This can be helpful when referencing specific activity in a support ticket or audit.

  • Event date – The exact date and time the event occurred, displayed in your local time zone. This helps you track the sequence of changes or investigate account activity during a specific timeframe.


Filtering the events log

To help you find exactly what you're looking for, the events log includes flexible filtering options. These filters allow you to quickly pinpoint the information you need, whether you're auditing changes, recovering from a mistake, or monitoring team collaboration.

To help you find exactly what you're looking for, the Events log includes flexible filtering options. Click the filter icon in the top-right corner of the Events page to access these tools. You can filter events by:

  • Event category 

  • Folder or folder type 

  • Date range 


What events are tracked?

The Events Log captures a wide range of activity across your account to provide full visibility into how files, folders, and settings are being used. Below is a breakdown of the types of events that are tracked and how they’re categorized for easy reference.

File and folder events:

These events track changes to files and folders in your account, including those in shared folders.

  • File or folder added – A file or folder was uploaded or created.

  • Added to shared folder – A file or folder was added to a shared folder.

  • Renamed – A file or folder was renamed.

  • Moved – A file or folder was moved to a new location.

  • Deleted – A file or folder was deleted.

  • Edited – A file was modified.

  • Restored – A previously deleted file or folder was restored.

  • Purged – A file or folder was permanently deleted.

  • Created a shared folder – A new shared folder was created.

  • Migration started/finished – System migrations were initiated or completed.

Link events:

These events cover activity related to link sharing and file requests.

  • Link created – A shareable link was generated for a file or folder.

  • Link deleted – A previously created link was removed.

  • File downloaded via link – A file was accessed through a shared link.

  • File uploaded via link – A file was submitted using a file request or upload link.

  • Link sent – A link was actively shared or sent by a user.

  • Comment added/updated/deleted – A comment was posted, edited, or removed on a shared link.

  • File edited in link – A file shared via link was modified.

Shared folder user events:

These events relate to shared folder access, user invitations, and ownership changes.

  • User invited to shared folder – A new collaborator was invited to join a shared folder.

  • User confirmed or joined share – An invited user accepted and joined the folder.

  • User removed from share – A user was manually removed from a shared folder.

  • User left share – A user voluntarily left a shared folder.

  • User reattached to share – A previously removed user regained access.

  • Ownership changes – A shared folder had its owner changed or promoted to another user.

  • Activity displayed to owner – The account owner was shown updates about user activity in the share.

Sign-in & security events

These events log account-level activity related to login, authentication, password changes, and device management.

  • Sign up – A new user account was created.

  • Device connected or upgraded – A device was linked to or updated in the account.

  • Email notification preferences changed – Email alert settings were updated.

  • Successful/failed login attempts – A user attempted to sign in (with or without success).

  • Two-factor authentication (2FA) – A 2FA prompt, failure, or backup code usage occurred.

  • Password activity – Passwords were changed or reset (including for sub-user or multi-user accounts).

  • Username updated – The user’s display name or username was changed.

  • Application activity – A third-party app was added or removed.

  • Account migrated – The user account was transferred during a system update.
