Firewall and antivirus programs may block Sync from working properly. If you need to confirm what security software is running on your device, follow the steps below for your operating system.
To check what antivirus or firewall software is running on Windows 10:
- Click Start and type Control Panel in the search bar. Open the Control Panel Desktop app.
- In the Control Panel window, set View by to Small icons, then click Security and Maintenance.
- Under Security, click the dropdown arrow to expand the section. You’ll see a list of antivirus and firewall programs currently running.

To check what antivirus software is installed on Windows 11:
- Click the Search bar at the bottom of your screen.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the Windows Security app.
- Click Virus & threat protection.
Your antivirus software will be listed on this screen.
- If you have a third-party antivirus program installed, it will appear here.
- If not, Windows will typically show Microsoft Defender Antivirus by default.
On macOS, antivirus programs are installed like other applications.
To check for antivirus software:
- Open Finder.
- Click Applications in the sidebar.
- Look through the list for antivirus or security software.
Common antivirus apps include Norton, McAfee, Avast, Bitdefender, and Malwarebytes.
If you don’t see any antivirus software listed, your Mac may not have a third-party antivirus program installed.
