How do I allow Sync to work with AVG?

Some firewall and antivirus programs sometimes block Sync from working properly. Here’s how to add Sync as an exception in AVG:

Windows macOS

To exclude Sync from AVG scans on Windows

  1. Open AVG AntiVirus on your computer.
  2. Click ☰ Menu ▸ Settings.
  3. Go to the General tab, then select Exceptions.
  4. Click Add exception.
  5. Click Browse and navigate to your Sync installation folder:
    C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync
(Replace <YourUsername> with your actual Windows username.)
  6. Select the Sync folder, then click OK.
  7. To ensure full compatibility, also add the following files as separate exceptions:
    C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync\sync-taskbar.exe
    C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync\sync-worker.exe
  8. Click Add exception again to confirm each path.

The Sync folder and its files are now excluded from AVG scans, helping to prevent connection or sync issues.

Note: If you don’t see the AppData folder, it may be hidden. You can unhide it by opening File Explorer, clicking View ▸ Show ▸ Hidden items. If Sync was previously blocked or quarantined by AVG, restore it before adding it as an exception, then restart your computer.
