Some firewall and antivirus programs sometimes block Sync from working properly. Here’s how to add Sync as an exception in AVG:
To exclude Sync from AVG scans on Windows
- Open AVG AntiVirus on your computer.
- Click ☰ Menu ▸ Settings.
- Go to the General tab, then select Exceptions.
- Click Add exception.
- Click Browse and navigate to your Sync installation folder:
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync
(Replace <YourUsername> with your actual Windows username.) - Select the Sync folder, then click OK.
- To ensure full compatibility, also add the following files as separate exceptions:
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync\sync-taskbar.exe
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync\sync-worker.exe - Click Add exception again to confirm each path.
The Sync folder and its files are now excluded from AVG scans, helping to prevent connection or sync issues.
Note: If you don’t see the AppData folder, it may be hidden. You can unhide it by opening File Explorer, clicking View ▸ Show ▸ Hidden items. If Sync was previously blocked or quarantined by AVG, restore it before adding it as an exception, then restart your computer.
To exclude Sync from AVG scans on macOS
- Open AVG AntiVirus on your Mac.
- Click ☰ Menu ▸ Preferences.
- Select the Scans tab.
- Choose the scan type you want to modify (for example, Mac Scan).
- Click Add exceptions.
- Navigate to and select the Sync app or Sync folder to exclude:
/Applications/Sync.app
~/Library/Application Support/Sync/ - Click Open to confirm your selection.
- If prompted, enter your Mac password and click OK to authorize the change.
The selected Sync files and folders will now appear in the exceptions list, ensuring that AVG does not block or scan them during routine protection or system scans.
Note: If Sync was previously flagged or quarantined by AVG, you may need to restore it before adding it as an exception. Restart your computer after saving changes to ensure the exception takes effect.
