If you see the message “2505 Key Stretch Failed” when trying to enable password reset, it usually means your current password contains characters that Sync doesn’t support for this feature.
This error most commonly appears right after you turn on the password reset option in your account/security settings.
How to fix this:
1. Change your password to use only standard ASCII characters
Sign in to your Sync account.
Go to your account settings or security page.
-
Change your password so it only uses the standard ASCII character set:
- Allowed:
- Letters:
A–Z,a–z - Numbers:
0–9 - Common symbols:
! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) - _ = +etc.
- Letters:
- Avoid:
- Accented letters (é, ñ, ü, etc.)
- Non-Latin characters (例如, пример, etc.)
- Emojis (😊, 🚀, etc.)
- Allowed:
- Save your new password.
Tip: If you’re unsure, stick to plain English letters, numbers, and common keyboard symbols.
2. Enable password reset again
- After updating your password, stay signed in (or sign in again with your new password).
- Return to the password reset setting.
- Turn password reset back on.
- Confirm that no error appears and that the setting is successfully enabled.
If you still see “2505 Key Stretch Failed” after changing your password to ASCII-only, double-check for any non-standard characters, or try simplifying the password further (for example, removing any unusual symbols you’re unsure about).
If you’ve tried these steps and you’re still getting this error, please contact our support team and let us know what took place when the error occurred so this can be investigated further.
