If you see the error message “This directory cannot be used as your Sync folder”, it means that the drive you selected is not compatible with the version of the Sync desktop app you are trying to install.
This happens when:
You were previously using an older, non-CloudFiles (2.x.x) version of the app and are updating to the latest CloudFiles (5.x.x) version of the Sync desktop app.
Your Sync folder is on an external USB or SSD.
The drive is not formatted as NTFS, which is required for the CloudFiles app series.
How to fix this:
Depending on how you want to use Sync, there are a few ways to resolve this:
Option 1: Update to the non-CloudFiles version of the Sync desktop app
If you want to keep using your external USB or SSD as your Sync folder location, you will need to update to the latest non-CloudFiles version of the Sync desktop app instead.
This is the best option if:
Your current setup already uses an external drive.
You do not want to change your drive format.
You prefer to keep your Sync folder where it is now.
Option 2: Move your Sync folder to the C: drive
If you want to use the latest CloudFiles version of the desktop app, choose a new Sync folder location on your computer’s local C: drive.
This is the best option if:
You want to use the latest version of the Sync desktop app.
You do not want to reformat your external drive.
You are okay storing the Sync folder on your computer instead of on the USB or SSD.
You can also use CloudFiles features to help save space on your computer.
Option 3: Reformat your external drive to NTFS
If you want to use the latest CloudFiles version of the app and keep your Sync folder on an external drive, the drive must be formatted as NTFS.
This will the best option if:
You want to continue using your external drive.
You want to use the CloudFiles app series.
You are comfortable reformatting the drive.
Important: Reformatting your drive will erase everything currently stored on it. Be sure to back up your files first.
