The "You are blocked by Cloudflare" with error codes 8998 or 8896 is generated by Cloudflare, the security service that helps protect Sync from malicious traffic. This error can occur because of a temporary service issue, your network configuration, or browser-related factors.
Before you begin troubleshooting, wait a few minutes and try signing in again.
In some cases, this error is caused by a temporary issue with Cloudflare or an upstream service provider. If that's the case, the problem typically resolves on its own without requiring any changes to your account.
If the error continues, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
1. Disable VPNs, proxies, or privacy relays
VPNs, proxy servers, and privacy relay services can sometimes trigger Cloudflare security checks.
Temporarily disable any of the following before signing in:
- VPN software
- Proxy servers
- Privacy relay services
- Anonymous browsing services
After disabling them, refresh the page and try signing in again.
2. Try a different network
Network-specific issues can occasionally trigger Cloudflare protections.
Try signing in using a different internet connection, such as:
- A mobile hotspot
- Another Wi-Fi network
- A different internet provider
If you're able to sign in from another network, the issue may be related to your original connection.
3. Open a private browsing window
Cached website data or browser extensions can sometimes interfere with the login process.
Open a new private or incognito window and attempt to sign in again.
If this works, clearing your browser cache and cookies may resolve the issue in your normal browsing session.
4. Make sure JavaScript is enabled
The Sync web panel requires JavaScript to function correctly.
If JavaScript has been disabled in your browser, enable it and try signing in again.
5. Update your browser
Make sure you're using the latest version of your web browser.
An outdated browser can sometimes cause unexpected login or compatibility issues.
6. Try another browser
If the problem only occurs in one browser, try signing in using another supported browser.
If another browser works, the issue may be related to browser-specific settings, extensions, or cached data.
