This article is for Sync customers running a legacy version of the Sync desktop application for Windows or Mac. To continue using the Sync desktop app you must update to a supported version.
What do I need to do?
- Download the 2.2.55 Sync installer for Windows (click here).

Run the installer (you'll need Administrator privileges on your Windows PC)
- The installer will detect your existing installation and update it automatically (click Use Existing Account).
- Your files and settings will remain intact.
- Restart your computer (optional but recommended after upgrade).
- Download the 2.2.55 Sync installer for Mac (click here).

Quit the Sync app currently running on your computer (click the Sync icon in the Mac menu bar and Quit Sync from the Preferences).
- Open the Sync.dmg and drag the Sync.app to Applications.
- From Applications (on the Dock), click the Sync icon to start the installer.
- The installer will detect your existing installation and update it automatically (click Use Existing Account).
- Restart your computer (optional but recommended after upgrade).
Possible issues
- Outdated operating system: If you’re running Windows XP, Vista, 7, macOS 10.10 or earlier, or another 32-bit Windows OS, you’ll need to upgrade your operating system first.
- Unable to detect your existing installation: Contact us.

How can I get my Sync folder onto an unsupported Operating System (OS)?
- Run your unsupported OS inside a Virtual Machine (VM).
- Install the 2.2.x latest Sync desktop app on the host machine (the host machine should be running a modern OS).
- Share the Sync folder from the host machine to the VM.
Note: The Sync support team is not able to assist with troubleshooting or configuration issues within virtual environments since it is not an officially supported setup.
How do I know which devices attached to my Sync account need to be updated?
- Sign in to the web panel.
- Click Settings from the left navigation bar.
- Click the Devices tab.
- Any desktop app running version 1.x, 2.0.x, or 2.1.x need to be updated.
- The latest versions (that don't need to be updated) are 2.2.x and 5.0.x.
